There's not much worse than having your products expire when it comes to managing fresh produce. It can damage your store's reputation and be expensive to address.

Each year, businesses experience tons of food waste across the globe. Thankfully, there is an innovative way to give fruits and vegetables the best chance of staying fresh.

The electronic shelf label serves as a great tool to manage the shelf life of fresh produces. Using Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL) significantly reduces human errors and food waste in your operations. In addition, unlike using paper labels in your processes, ESL lets staff focus on customer service to provide the best possible in-store shopping experience.

In our previous article, "Why the Electronic Shelf Label is the Best Option For Handling the Shelf Life of Dairy Products?" we compared the processes of Newton's Shelf-life Management Solution and using paper labels in preserving dairy products on the shelves.

SOLUM's latest lineup of ESL is now empowered by the all-new Newton system that elevates an ordinary ESL's capabilities. With Newton's features, you can better automate your business operations and manage the shelf life of your fresh produces.

Here is an illustration showing the difference between using ESL solutions and traditional solutions in managing dairy products.

Traditional Process for Fresh Produce

Write the date manually after moving frozen meat/fish to the display case.

Monitor the dates of two items using one label.

Every time a product is sold or displayed, the date is updated again manually.

Staff enters the delivery date of the meat/fish and registers their expiry schedule in the system after they are moved into the cold section.

The expiration date is automatically logged in (ex: June 2nd arrival + 3-day shelf life = expiry is June 4th)

Staff assigns different colors depending on the date/time.

The system displays discount notifications on products reaching expiry dates and flashes the assigned LED color (ex: 10% discount for blue, 20% for yellow, 30% for orange, or discard for red)

When the product is sold, staff presses the button to delete the management date.

The Newton Difference

Newton provides an optimal shelf life management solution that intuitively informs you of shelves containing products that need to be checked for expiration dates through LEDs so that you don't have to check every shelf.

Newton can also automatically add a discount notification on items that are nearing their use-by date, helping reduce food waste through streamlined inventory management and LED alarm functions.

Elevate your shelf-life management through Newton, and your business will experience convenience in operations and significant savings.
